The Bothy
Bothy is an Irish Gaelic word meaning shelter. Historically to present day these modest structures are found on many land holdings in the United Kingdom, providing an open door to travelers in need of refuge. We wish to emulate this spirit of generous welcome in the Feeny Wood Bothy.
The Bothy is a spiritual refuge; a quiet space to linger, rest, and experience the restorative presence of God apart from everyday distractions. Tucked into a grove of seven fir trees, the Bothy is within easy walking distance of the main house, yet secluded and private. The Bothy is outfitted modestly and comfortably. Large windows, doors, and a modern wood interior, integrate nature and create a sense of calm restfulness. A cantilevered deck floats over the forest floor providing ample outdoor space to sit and contemplate the woodland surroundings.
You may choose to come away to the Bothy for a full day, or for a couple of hours. However you wish to use your time apart—to meditate, journal, read, nap, draw, or wander—is entirely up to you.
Spiritual direction is available by request for your Bothy retreat. Spiritual direction is a space for honest reflection and listening to God. It is an unhurried time in the company of a gentle and attentive spiritual director that may include conversation, silence, reading, and prayers. Request spiritual direction on the reservation form, and we will arrange for our trusted community partner to meet with you.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID, adjustments are being made in how we offer our spaces and experiences. You will find new policy details on the reservations page. Thank you for your understanding as we go forward together, with wisdom and grace.
